Ok, so I work in a middle school in a very well off area....yeah, little girls carry purses that cost more than what is in my checking account right now....
So today, a boy, a "behavior problem" acted up in the cafe during lunch...mind you, he did get to eat 1/2 his lunch. But in whatever he was doing he ended up down in the office....in the meantime, your cafeteria staff cleanined the room and toss his remaining lunch. Well...well after service was over and we were cleaning up for the day. Here comes administration to get him a new lunch. Because, "well he has to eat..."
Yeah? Really...? First of all, not being a hater, he wasn't a "waif" of a 6th grader. A missed 1/2 of lunch, hardly would make a ding. But .... he gets a new, FULL lunch to eat and finish....because he acted up in the cafe and got in trouble. Wouldn't have happened had he just had his head down and was moving his fork up and back to his mouth. Hard to be foolish when your finishing lunch...Hard to talk when your mouth is full of food, huh?
So ok... let's "consequence" this kid, but then turn around and give him lunch that, as I see it, he FORFIETTED when he acted poorly and wound up down in the office. At 12, you can understand THOSE kind of consequences, right? So let's give poor johnny his lunch. Never mind he broke rules, acted out. Lets just show him that there are rules...but don't worry...you won't miss your lunch if your "bad".
For the record, I'm not hard hearted. Had this been acting out in a class and they snapped him up during cafe time...well...then THEY are wrong. Let the kid eat...then do business. I mean, if it did happen in a classroom and they didn't get it then...what's 20 minutes more so he can eat a salad?
And for the record...when my darling boy...who is usually so good... gets to middle school.... They will get a note that will go something like this...
To Whom It May Concern,
Should my son act out during his lunch period and misses his assigned time to eat...he is NOT to get a meal. He will NOT starve... I promise. I will not sue you. I will not seek to get you suspended from your job.
It is his tough luck. If he can't follow the rules. He doesn't get the "rewards" of food, freetime and friends. Simple. The same rule would be in my home. It should be at school.
Sucks to be him,
Mrs. Cathi Carpenter
Hopefully..... and for K's sake, I hope I never have to draft and send off that letter.
PEACE!

Where does time go???
My handsome handsome boy.... it seems like yesterday when he was just a baby...where does time go? I did the typical stupid thing and cried like a baby when I saw this....sigh. Sometimes mortality just slaps you right up in the face, huh?
